FAQ
Yes! I primarily cover Northern California and Oregon. However, I am happy to consider farther destinations to help you celebrate your union; please note that ceremonies outside my primary service area will incur an additional travel fee.
Handfasting is an ancient Celtic and Norse tradition where a couple’s hands are literal "bound" together with colorful cords or ribbons to symbolize their union. It is a beautiful, visual way to represent the intertwining of two lives and is the origin of the phrase "tying the knot." See more here.
To ensure your preferred date is available, I recommend reaching out 6 to 12 months in advance. If you are planning on a shorter timeline, feel free to check with me. If my schedule allows, I am always happy to accommodate last-minute magic! I've worked with couples who have come down to the wire.
Absolutely. While my brand is rooted in spiritual and nature-based traditions, I honor all paths. Whether you want a ceremony that is deeply spiritual, entirely secular, or somewhere in between, we will work together to make it reflect your unique bond.

No problem at all! You can simply select the "Our date is flexible" box on the contact form. During our initial consultation, we can discuss your preferred season or month and narrow down the perfect date together.
Unlike Oregon's strict two-witness rule, California is much more flexible. Whether witnesses are required in California depends entirely on the type of marriage license the couple chooses.
Public Marriage License: (Most common): If the couple gets a standard Public Marriage License, only one witness is required.
The Rule: At least one witness must be physically present at the ceremony and sign the license afterward.
The Limit: The license has space for a maximum of two witnesses to sign. It's up to you who will be your signers. The witness(es) must meet the requirements.
Confidential Marriage License:
California is one of the few states that offers a "Confidential" marriage license. This option requires zero witnesses.
The Rule: No witnesses are required to attend the ceremony and there is no space on a Confidential Marriage License for a witness to sign. The only signatures required are the couple's and the officiant's.
The Catch: To qualify for a Confidential Marriage License, the couple must legally declare under penalty of perjury that they are already adults living together as spouses at the time they apply. The final marriage record is completely closed to the public and can only be accessed by the couple themselves.
Public Marriage License:
Age Requirement: Interestingly, California law does not specify a strict minimum age for witnesses on a Public Marriage License. However, the state dictates that the witness must be old enough to understand they are witnessing a legal marriage ceremony and must be physically capable of signing their name in black ink.
Confidential Marriage License:
None required.
Just like in Oregon, the officiant (me!) cannot count as a witness on a Public Marriage License. If a couple is eloping completely solo with a Public Marriage License, they will need to ask a photographer, venue staff member, or even a nearby stranger who witnessed the ceremony to sign as their single required witness.
For example: My husband and I opted for a Public Marriage License and had two witnesses. My husband's mother was the first witness and one of my friends was the second witness.
These laws are subject to change. I will update this information as timely as possible if it changes.

To have a legal union, yes. The marriage license must be valid and within the time frame specified by your location. In general, some are valid for 30 days, and some are valid for 60 days. It is your responsibility to obtain the license so your ceremony falls within the valid period for your location. If it is expired, or you do not have a license, your union will not be legal. After the ceremony you may choose to return it to your location's vital records department yourself (terminology may vary), or I will return it in person or via USPS Priority Mail. If it is not returned within the period of validity, your union will not be legal. I generally file or mail them within 3 business days.
I accept cash, credit/debit cards, Venmo, Facebook Pay, PayPal, Chime, and Cash App.
I accept a deposit and have a payment plan for the remaining balance. This will be discussed during a consultation and the terms will be written into the contract.
